Synagogue heroes honoured after Manchester terror attack
Two men died and three others were seriously injured after the attacker targeted the synagogue on Yom Kippur, with victims blocking his entry to protect worshippers.
- On Thursday, a man attacked the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation entrance with a vehicle and knife on Yom Kippur; two men died and Jihad al-Shamie was shot dead by Greater Manchester Police.
- Witnesses said the man was seen acting suspiciously before he returned to attack, and Counter Terror Policing confirmed Jihad al-Shamie was not previously known and was on bail for an alleged rape.
- Survivors and relatives named Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, who died shielding worshippers as Daulby was apparently struck by a police bullet while barricading the doors.
- Clubs across Manchester will mark the victims with minute's silences and black armbands, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Salford City all paying tribute at upcoming matches.
- Nitsana Darshan-Leitner warned the attack fits a larger European pattern of risk to Jewish communities, saying Jewish life in Europe is 'approaching a breaking point' after October 7th.
