Sydney Mardi Gras Party Returns in 2027 at Allianz Stadium Tunnels
The 24-day festival adds new events and brings back the parade afterparty after its 2026 cancellation over rising costs.
On Thursday, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO Jesse Matheson announced the iconic Mardi Gras Party will return on March 6, 2027, moving underground to tunnels beneath Allianz Stadium.
The return follows the 2026 cancellation, when organisers cited rising costs and "significant financial loss" as reasons for axing the $2 million event after the headliner fell through.
Expanding to 24 days, the 2027 festival runs from February 12 to March 7 under the theme Hyperbloom, featuring more than 100 additional events alongside returning favourites and new cultural collaborations.
Member ticket presales begin Monday, November 9 at 11 am, while the full performance lineup will be announced Tuesday, November 10 via mardigras.org.au and the Mardi Gras App.
Organisers are positioning this festival as the beginning of a new era while looking ahead to the historic 50th anniversary in 2028, emphasizing Mardi Gras's enduring role in the queer rights movement.
