John Shortt wins gold medal in European men’s 200m backstroke and sets new world junior record
Ireland’s rising swimming star John Shortt delivered a sensational performance today to claim gold in the men’s 200m backstroke at the European Aquatics Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland.
The 20-year-old Greek swimmer once again improved the Panhellenic Youth U23 record, which he had achieved in the morning (1:51.25) and with a performance of 1:50.99 he finished third in the second heat and moved up to sixth overall.
Swimmer Jan Čejka won bronze in the 200-meter backstroke at the European Short Course Championships. He improved his own Czech record from the semifinals at the championship in Lublin by another 34 hundredths of a second to 1:49.43.
