Swiatek on One-Way Street to Second Round in Paris
On Monday, May 25, 2026, four-time champion Iga Swiatek defeated French Open debutante Emerson Jones 6-1, 6-2 in exactly one hour on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Seeking to strengthen her clay-court campaign, Swiatek recently hired Francisco Roig, who previously worked with 14-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal.
With temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius, Swiatek managed a blister on her right hand after the opening set, saying, "I'm just really happy to play on this court."
Fellow contender Elena Rybakina also advanced to the second round on Monday, securing a comfortable opening victory over Slovenian Veronika Erjavec.
Advancing to the second round, Swiatek will next face Czech Sara Bejlek for a place in the third round.
