SWAT Standoff in American Falls Ends Safely
AMERICAN FALLS, IDAHO, JUL 6 – Billie Palmer, 58, was arrested on felony aggravated assault charges after a multi-hour standoff involving several agencies and negotiation attempts, police said.
- On Sunday afternoon around 12:30 p.m., multiple agencies engaged in a standoff with Billie Palmer after he fired shots outside his American Falls home.
- Following a 911 call reporting Palmer pointed a handgun and fired two shots at a visitor on Fort Hall Avenue, police responded with multiple agencies.
- Multiple agencies, including SWAT, K-9, STAR teams, and local sheriff's offices, responded with negotiation efforts involving friends, clergy, and supervisors to resolve the standoff.
- When communication with Palmer ceased, officers used a BearCat to breach the home and arrested him on felony assault charges after finding him unconscious at the scene.
- Meanwhile, authorities shut down Fort Hall Avenue and nearby streets, urging residents to stay indoors, as Palmer's mental health and alcohol issues prompted ongoing concern; a news release is expected Monday.
