Swans Star Returns Positive Drug Test in Roadside Check
Sydney forward Tom Papley was issued a court attendance notice after a roadside drug test returned a positive preliminary result, with a second sample pending.
On Monday, Sydney Swans star Tom Papley was pulled over by NSW Police for a license check, returning a positive preliminary drug test and receiving a court attendance notice for driving with a suspended license.
The club confirmed on Wednesday that Papley, 30, was stopped due to an outstanding parking fine, which led to the discovery of his suspended license status.
A second sample was taken for analysis, with the Swans reporting that final results are expected to take at least four weeks while the police investigation remains ongoing.
The AFL was informed of the matter immediately, marking the latest senior Swan to face legal trouble following the Pullman Five scandal that derailed the team's recent finals campaign.
Papley faces court as the club manages ongoing turmoil, which previously saw former teammate Nick Blakey request a trade to North Melbourne to play as an opponent next year.
