They were suspected of being burglars, and a confrontation ensued with a local emergency squad member. During the fight, the resident was stabbed, pulled out a gun, and shot a 15-year-old boy. A 9mm shell casing and bloodstains were found at the scene.
The boy called the police himself and reported that he had been shot in the stomach near Highway 42. He was located in the Yavneh Industrial Zone and taken to Kaplan Hospital in serious condition. A 50-year-old resident of Ben Zakkai, a member of the emergency squad who owns a licensed gun, claimed that he was stabbed by a masked suspect who shot at him.
