Surrey single mom urgently searching for kidney donor
Surrey mother Preet Brar needs a kidney transplant after her previous donor organ failed, while her disabled son relies on her care.
Surrey resident Preet Brar is seeking a kidney donor while caring for her 25-year-old son who has multiple health conditions including epilepsy and developmental delays.
Brar's health struggles began in 2001 while she was 23 weeks pregnant, resulting in her son's birth at 1.1 pounds; a 2007 transplant functioned for 17 years before failing in 2022.
On May 17 of this year, Brar returned to emergency care, underscoring the urgency of her need; she now requires dialysis three to four times a week.
Her son, who has global developmental delays, moderate intellectual delays, epilepsy, and diabetes, has asked Brar, "Are you dying? Are you going to heaven, mummy?" regarding her condition.
Prospective donors must be an O-positive blood type match; interested individuals can contact Vancouver Coastal Health kidney donor nurse Jovana Bosiljcic at kidneydonornurse@vch.ca and reference file number 8111.
