Hochul: SUNY Enrollment Sees Increase for Third Consecutive Year

SUNY enrollment increased 2.9% year over year, adding about 11,000 students, led by community colleges and transfer students, driven by SUNY Reconnect and recruitment efforts.

  • On Tuesday, the State University of New York system reported enrollment rose 2.9% between fall 2024 and fall 2025, marking the third consecutive year of growth, the state said.
  • The state credited the rise to SUNY Reconnect, launched this fall for adults ages 25 to 55, and a 5% enrollment increase at SUNY community colleges.
  • Campus-Wide figures show nearly 3% growth this fall added 11,000 students, making a total of 387,000 students at SUNY schools.
  • However, SUNY reported 800 fewer international students this fall amid federal visa policy changes, and not every SUNY campus recorded gains, leaving uneven outcomes across the system.
  • Looking back, the fall 2022 to fall 2023 year was the first enrollment increase in 10 years, and SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. said, `More students are choosing to pursue an excellent and affordable education at the SUNY institution of their dreams.
