Suno Pulls Mary J. Blige Ad, Says She Never Authorized Campaign
Suno said it ended the campaign after learning Blige had not approved the deal and was uncomfortable with the ad.
On Thursday, AI music platform Suno pulled a controversial advertisement featuring legendary R&B singer Mary J. Blige after learning the deal was unauthorized and Blige was "uncomfortable."
Released late last month, the video showed Blige appearing to collaborate with the AI system, sparking immediate backlash over her apparent endorsement of Suno, a company with a combative relationship with the music industry.
In the clip, Blige watches a producer build a track titled "Pretty Flowers," seemingly calling the process "dope." Suno's spokesperson stated the company deeply admires Blige, noting she "hasn't stopped innovating."
Earlier this week, Grammy-winning Americana singer Jason Isbell sued Suno for violating artists' name, image, and likeness rights, part of multiple lawsuits the platform faces over unauthorized use of copyrighted material.
This marks the latest backlash for Suno, which previously faced criticism from SZA after discovering over 200 of her songs were used for AI training, as Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment remain in active litigation.
