Subaru Recall: Moonroof Glass May Detach While Driving
Subaru said dealers will inspect affected moonroof panels and replace assemblies at no cost after reports of glass separation, the automaker said.
- Subaru is recalling nearly 70,000 Forester and Forester Hybrid vehicles after discovering a manufacturing defect that could cause moonroof glass panels to detach while driving, creating a potential hazard for other motorists.
- Webasto Roof Systems Inc. in Kentucky supplied the moonroof assemblies, which Subaru traced to improper primer application during manufacturing that weakened the adhesive bond between the glass panel and sliding frame.
- Following a February 26 report of a detached moonroof panel, Subaru identified 65,656 Forester SUVs produced between June 19, 2025, and March 13, 2026, plus 4,007 Forester Hybrid models affected by the defect.
- Dealers will inspect affected moonroof assemblies and replace them if necessary at no cost to owners, who can verify their vehicle status through Subaru or NHTSA recall lookup tools.
- Although Subaru received three reports of the defect, it is not aware of any crashes or injuries and initiated the voluntary safety recall on May 21 "out of an abundance of caution.
