More than 69,000 Subaru SUVs Recalled because Moonroofs May Detach While Driving
Subaru says 2.9% of the recalled vehicles may have defective moonroof assemblies, and dealers will inspect or replace the glass at no cost.
Subaru is recalling 69,663 vehicles, including the 2026 Subaru Forester and 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid, because the power moonroof glass may detach while the vehicle is in motion, posing a safety hazard.
The defect stems from improper primer application during manufacturing, which prevents proper bonding between the glass panel and sliding frame; over time, the adhesive bond weakens, allowing detachment.
Impacted models include 65,656 standard Foresters and 4,007 Forester Hybrid vehicles; Subaru estimates 2.9% of recalled vehicles possess the defect following three technical reports between February and March.
Dealers will inspect the moonroof glass for proper adhesion and replace the assembly at no cost if necessary, with the repair process identified under recall number WRF-26.
Owners can verify eligibility by searching Vehicle Identification Numbers on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website now, with official notification letters scheduled to be mailed on July 24.
