Study Reveals How Leukemia Cells Enter and Damage Lungs
Researchers found AML cells slip into lung tissue through alveolar vessels, driving fibrosis and a shift toward immune-suppressing cells, while steroid treatment improved breathing within 12 hours.
This is demonstrated by a study published in Nature Immunology, under the co-direction of Dr. Manel Esteller, ICREA research professor and head of the Cancer Epigenetics group at the Sant Pau Research Institute (IR Sant Pau), in addition to Professor of Genetics at the University of Barcelona, and Dr. Iannis Aifantis, from the Grossman School of Medicine at the University of New York (NYU Grossman School of Medicine).
