A new study by the National Bureau of Economic Research found a relationship between voting Republican and dying of COVID-19. Excess death rates for Republicans and Democrats were similar in 2018 and the early parts of 2020, but the Republican death rate was nearly double that of Democrats in the winter of 2021. This was most likely caused by lower vaccination rates among Republicans, researchers said.
