Artificial lighting on Earth has increased significantly in recent years – and much faster than the global population. According to a study, light emissions rose by 16 percent worldwide between the beginning of 2014 and the end of 2022 – while the global population grew by only roughly ten percent during this period. However, this trend was not uniform, as an international research group reports in the journal "Nature".
