Stuck at Triple-A, Matt Wallner wonders if his time with the Twins is over

Matt Wallner, a Forest Lake native, has spent much of this season with the Triple-A Saints after a difficult start with the Minnesota Twins, hitting.276 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs in 62 games through Thursday.
Following an erratic 2025 season, Wallner struggled early this year, hitting.167 with 53 strikeouts and four home runs in 34 games before the Twins optioned him to the minor leagues.
The Twins have a crowded roster featuring outfielders Trevor Larnach, Austin Martin, Luke Keaschall, and Alan Roden; Wallner remains on the 40-man roster but would need to be released outright to join another organization.
Minnesota called up Kaelen Culpepper, their No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, on Friday for his major league debut in Milwaukee; Walker Jenkins, the top prospect, is expected to be the next outfielder promoted.
Despite his productive minor league performance, Wallner admitted, "In my head, I feel like maybe my time is past in this organization," and does not expect a recall while remaining under team control through 2027.
