US Edition'Striking' new artwork for UK trains revealed as MPs debate rail nationalisation
The new Great British Railways branding features a Union flag-inspired livery and will appear gradually from spring on state-owned trains covering about a third of UK rail journeys.
- On Tuesday, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander unveiled new train designs and the Great British Railways logo, with the Department for Transport creating the livery in-house to save taxpayers' money and planning a staged rollout from next spring.
- The government is renationalising most passenger services under the Railways Bill, which aims to unify 17 organisations and create a one-stop GBR app and strengthened Passenger Watchdog, the DfT said.
- At a London Bridge exhibition, visitors will see a GBR-branded Hornby model and a Train Sim World 6 demo, with designs shown through December at London Bridge, Birmingham New Street, Glasgow Central, Leeds City, and Manchester Piccadilly.
- MPs will debate the government's Railways Bill in the House of Commons on Tuesday, while seven state-owned train operators now account for about a third of rail journeys.
- While fares are frozen next year, a new East Coast Main Line timetable will add roughly 60,000 extra seats weekly, with ministers citing capacity gains since renationalisation.
