Strikes on camp in Ethiopia kill at least 15: Reuters
Witnesses said the camp was hit five times and more than 20 shelters burned, leaving displaced families without food, medicine and shelter.
On Thursday, multiple drone strikes hit the Hayiq Jari 2 Turk IDP camp in Ethiopia's Amhara region, killing 14 civilians. The camp, situated 400 km northeast of Addis Ababa, provides refuge to people who fled previous violence.
The Ethiopian government has used its drone fleet to gain strategic advantage against rebel alliances in Amhara and Tigray over the past month. Ongoing clashes intensified despite a recent lull in heavy combat.
Witnesses reported at least five strikes at 15-minute intervals while residents sheltered inside. The attack injured 36 people, transported to Hayiq Hospital and Dessie Hospital for medical treatment.
More than 20 household shelters burned during the attack, leaving survivors without emergency shelter or belongings. Displaced families now face worsening humanitarian conditions while sheltering in a local school and struggling to access food and medicine.
Experts warn interconnected conflicts in the Horn of Africa could trigger broader regional instability. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the incident.
A relative of one of the victims reported seeing at least ten injured children under the age of five receiving medical treatment
