The Seattle Torrent Parts Ways with Head Coach After Inaugural Season
Meghan Turner said the Torrent will begin searching immediately after a last-place finish and a league-worst 92 goals allowed.
On Friday, Seattle Torrent General Manager Meghan Turner announced that head coach Steve O'Rourke has departed the Professional Women's Hockey League franchise following its inaugural last-place season.
The 8-1-5-16 inaugural season saw the Torrent struggle significantly, averaging 2.1 goals per game while allowing a league-high 92 goals against.
Before joining the Torrent, the 51-year-old O'Rourke coached the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals, building on a playing career with the Western Hockey League's Tri-City Americans.
The organization will begin searching for a new head coach immediately, Turner said, to fill the vacancy created by O'Rourke's departure.
As the PWHL expands to 12 teams, speculation regarding O'Rourke's replacement centers on Seattle Kraken assistant coach Jessica Campbell, who is exploring other opportunities.
