Is the PlayStation Network Down? Thousands Report Connection and Login Issues

Thousands of gamers reported sign-in and connection problems as Sony’s status page still showed all PlayStation services as up and running.

  • On July 24, thousands of Users reported widespread issues accessing PlayStation Network, with many experiencing difficulty signing in and connecting to online services.
  • Despite Sony reporting that all services were "up and running," a Heatmap from Downdetector showed a huge concentration of Users in London reporting connectivity issues.
  • Downdetector reports dipped to around 4,500 by 2.20pm before shooting up to 6,300 at 3pm. One User wrote: "Can't load any digital games at all bought or free. Can't connect to servers to verify licences."
  • Players trying to hop into the Marvel Tokon open beta received a "server busy" message. Since Sony has not officially acknowledged a widespread outage, many Users remain unable to connect to PSN features.
  • From January 2028, new PlayStation games will only be available via the PlayStation Store and at retailers in "digital formats," Sony announced. This shift positions the company toward digital-only distribution.
