Danny Akin to retire from Southeastern Seminary after record tenure
Danny Akin will retire July 31, 2026, after 22 years as president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary — one of the longest tenures among Southern Baptist Convention leaders. Under Akin’s leadership, the Wake Forest school grew to become the SBC’s third largest seminary. He will remain as president emeritus and senior professor of preaching and theology.
