State vows to cut surgery waitlist with $49.5 million funding boost

The $49.5 million boost will subsidize surgeries in private hospitals and speed up public hospital theatres to treat about 5,600 more patients, following a 7% waitlist drop last year.

The state hoped to move another 5600 patients awaiting elective surgery through both public and private-sector hospitals in 2026.
