Winter Fuel Payment Warning as Pensioners Face Deadline Next Week
Higher earners may have the payment reclaimed by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) unless they opt out, officials said.
Pensioners have just days to opt out of the Winter Fuel Payment, with the deadline for the helpline and online form set for Friday, September 18.
Opting out is particularly important for individuals earning above £35,000 annually, as HMRC will reclaim the payment through the tax system unless pensioners decline it beforehand.
To opt out, individuals can use the Government's online form or contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre, providing their name, address, date of birth, and National Insurance number.
Recipients who opt out will not receive the Winter Fuel Payment in future years unless they choose to opt back in by contacting the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.
Those who receive a State Pension and have login details can use the Manage your State Pension service, while the helpline at 0800 731 0160 operates Monday to Friday.
