Average UK salary: study shows 'stark' pay gap between regions - with southern cities outpacing the north
Average annual salaries in the South East are £12,800 higher than in the lowest-paid areas, with London's salaries nearly £20,000 higher.
The think tank reported that by August, the average worker in London will have earned what an average worker in Burnley earns in a year.
The report indicates that cities like London and Cambridge have more cutting-edge jobs, leading to higher pay compared to poorer areas.
Andrew Carter of the Centre for Cities emphasized the need for bold changes to planning rules and fast-tracked English devolution to improve pay across the country.
