St. Louis will kick off 2028 Olympic games by hosting marathon team trials
Three men and three women will earn spots on Team USA as the first Olympic team selection event ahead of LA28 begins.
USA Track & Field and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced Thursday that St. Louis will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Marathon on March 25, 2028, where three men and three women will earn spots on Team USA.
St. Louis previously hosted America's Olympic marathon debut in 1904 and the 2004 women's trials, establishing itself as a premier Olympic venue with seven events since 2000.
Athletes will traverse a course through Washington University, site of the 1904 Olympic stadium and the world's oldest active Olympic stadium, plus the Gateway Arch, Forest Park, Busch Stadium, and Energizer Park.
This marathon trials marks the first Olympic team selection event across all sports for LA28, with USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland stating the race will determine initial Team USA members after more than 30 years.
NBC will broadcast the event live at 11 a.m., while St. Louis Organizing Committee Co-Chair Jackie Joyner-Kersee pledged the city is ready to deliver a "first-class experience" for athletes competing for their Olympic dreams.
