Letter to the editor: St John Ambulance commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE-Day
- On 8 May 2025, the Cayman Islands will hold a ceremony at the Cayman Turtle Centre to honor the eight decades since Victory in Europe Day, commemorating the territory's involvement in World War II.
- This commemoration recognizes Cayman’s contribution during World War II when the Jamaica Home Guard formed a company on Grand Cayman in June 1942 that served until 1945.
- Governor Jane Owen, Premier André Ebanks, Veterans Association members, relatives, and officials will participate as Cayman joins over 200 locations lighting beacons to remember Allied forces of D-Day.
- Alfonso Wright, Executive Chairman of Celebrate Cayman, stated that the events pay tribute to veterans' courage and embody the principles of harmony and togetherness symbolized by VE Day.
- The ceremony will serve as a reminder of Cayman’s wartime role and foster remembrance amid no surviving local World War II veterans today.
