Sri Lanka announce squad for Tri-Series in Pakistan
Sri Lanka’s 16-member squad mixes veterans and newcomers, with Pathum Nissanka’s travel dependent on medical clearance.
- Sri Lanka Cricket announced a 16-member squad led by captain Kusal Mendis on Sunday for the upcoming ODI tri-series in Pakistan beginning October 18.
- Following a 1-2 series defeat in England last month, the squad largely mirrors that team while notable omissions include former captain Charith Asalanka and all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.
- Avishka Fernando and Sahan Arachchige earned recalls to replace the departed players, while opener Pathum Nissanka's participation remains subject to medical clearance due to fitness concerns.
- The tri-series, which also features England, serves as preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa as Sri Lanka aims to settle their core combination.
- Matches will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore following a round-robin format, with the final scheduled for October 31 in Lahore where all three sides compete for the trophy.
