Square, round and clog dancers set to fill Penticton for national festival
About 600 dancers from six countries will join public demonstrations and try-it sessions during the volunteer-run festival.
- The 24th Canadian National Square, Round and Clog Dance Convention arrives in Penticton from July 15 to 18, bringing approximately 600 dancers to the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.
- Co-Chair Wendy Krueger called Penticton a "natural choice" for the convention, citing the city's history with square dance jamborees dating back to the 1954 Peach Festival Square Dance Jamboree.
- Participants will attempt dance "calls" while treading water during the "AquaDucks Dangle Dance" on Saturday at Okanagan Lake Park, marked by a 12-foot inflatable duck.
- Spectators are welcome to watch festival activities from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with public square dancing sessions on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the PTCC.
- Approximately 600 dancers from Canada, the United States, China, Germany, Malaysia, and Australia have pre-registered for this volunteer-run festival that connects generations through shared tradition.
