Spotify Adds 'Verified' Badge to Distinguish Human Acts From AI
The badges will mark artists with active fan interest as Spotify says more than 99% of searched-for artists will be verified at launch.
- On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Spotify unveiled a new "Verified by Spotify" badge marked by light green checkmarks to help listeners identify human artists, with badges appearing on profiles and in search results over the coming weeks.
- Streaming services face mounting concern over AI-generated content, with rival service Deezer reporting last week that synthetic tracks now represent 44% of daily uploads, posing discoverability and spam challenges.
- To earn the badge, artists must demonstrate consistent listener engagement, adhere to platform policies, and show genuine presence through concert dates or linked social accounts; notably, "AI-generated or AI-persona profiles are not eligible."
- Spotify is also introducing an expanded information section for all artist pages, comparing the feature to "nutrition facts," which displays career milestones, release activity, and touring history.
- Following Sony Music's recent request to remove more than 135,000 AI-produced songs impersonating its artists, Spotify notes that verification will occur on an ongoing basis to ensure accuracy and consistency.
