In half a year, Austria could come to a point where decent detention can no longer be guaranteed, says Minister of Justice Anna Sporrer (SPÖ), while courts and prosecutors protest.
If the number of prisoners continues to rise, this can no longer be guaranteed in six to nine months, says the Minister of Justice.
The Minister of Justice wants to counter with more electronic house arrest, non-profit work instead of short prison sentences and further measures. The courts are also to be relieved by reforms and the use of AI.
According to Sporrer, if the number of prisoners continues to increase, "in six to nine months' time we will no longer be able to guarantee a dignified prison sentence."
