'Special master' named for ethics probe in lawsuit over Trump's DC golf project
The judge said the probe will examine whether Justice and Interior Department lawyers misled the court in a fight over a historic public golf course.
On Saturday, U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes named Jessie Liu as 'special master' to investigate whether government attorneys committed ethical violations in defending President Donald Trump's East Potomac Golf Links renovation.
Following an October 30 hearing, Reyes expressed concerns that government attorneys misrepresented the administration's intent to continue renovating the East Potomac course despite her temporary order blocking the project.
Liu, a former U.S. Attorney for Washington, oversaw the Roger Stone criminal case during President Donald Trump's first term; her partner Jonathan Kravis resigned from the Justice Department in protest over that case's handling.
The Interior Department issued a statement calling Reyes a 'far Left activist judge' who would 'stop at nothing to prevent President Donald Trump's efforts to beautify our nation's capital.'
Trump seeks to transform the public East Potomac course into a 'world class' facility, though a February lawsuit asserts the project violates environmental laws and a congressional preservation act.
