UP Govt Avoiding Debate on Ram Temple Donation Theft: Opposition
The chief minister accused opposition members of insulting the House and said a special investigation team is already probing the alleged misappropriation.
- On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Samajwadi Party and Congress of "undemocratic and unconstitutional" conduct during the Monsoon Session, criticizing them for raising the Ram Temple donation matter despite its sub judice status.
- After media reports of donation irregularities, the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust requested an investigation on June 12, prompting the government to form a Special Investigation Team on June 13 as the Samajwadi Party protested over alleged theft.
- Based on Special Investigation Team findings, an FIR was registered in Ayodhya on June 25 with arrests; Adityanath asserted the preliminary findings showed no involvement of saints or seers, and noted more than 1,100 employees work in the temple complex.
- During the Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge questioned where investigative agencies were examining the theft allegations, while Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju demanded an apology from opposition members for raising the sub judice matter.
- Adityanath invoked assembly procedures to defend the government's position, citing that matters pending before courts cannot ordinarily be discussed in the House unless the Speaker permits it, while claiming the BJP-led government transformed Uttar Pradesh over nine years into a top economy.
