Southwest Airlines Opens GIC in Hyderabad
The centre will expand to 1,000 engineers and technology professionals as the airline builds capabilities in AI, data science and cybersecurity.
On Wednesday, Southwest Airlines announced the opening of its Global Innovation Centre in Hyderabad, India, marking a significant expansion of the airline's global business and technology capabilities.
Telangana Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu inaugurated the Centre, stating Southwest Airlines' "decision to establish its GIC here further reflects Hyderabad's strategic importance" in aviation and technology innovation.
The Hyderabad Office spans about 20,000 square feet and will onboard nearly 200 employees in its first phase, eventually scaling to 1,000 technology professionals across AI, cloud engineering, and software development.
Krishna Kallepalli, Vice President and Global Head of Innovation, India, said, "we are building capabilities across AI, data, next-generation engineering," viewing the office as an extension of Southwest's global workforce.
Global enterprises including American Airlines and Marriott International have established innovation centers in Hyderabad over the past year, reinforcing the city's growing reputation as a hub for advanced engineering and technology innovation.
