The province of South Holland is considering establishing a 250-meter nitrogen zone around the Nieuwkoopse Plassen lakes. The province is initially allowing users of the nature and recreation area in the Groene Hart region to submit their own proposals for its implementation. The goal is to reduce nitrogen pressure on the Natura 2000 area in the northwest of the province, near Alphen aan den Rijn.
