South East Water Boss David Hinton Resigns After Multiple Supply Failures
The company said he will stay through the summer for an orderly transition after MPs said leadership failures worsened outages affecting thousands of customers.
South East Water CEO David Hinton announced he will step down, following the resignation of former chairman Chris Train last week amid widespread criticism of supply outages across Kent and Sussex.
The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee published a report last Friday describing the company as "devoid of proper leadership" and "riddled with cultural problems" regarding supply failures.
During hearings, Hinton admitted he "got it wrong" regarding outages that left more than 24,000 properties in Tunbridge Wells without water for over a week, prompting a £22 million Ofwat fine.
Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds welcomed the departure as marking "the beginning of positive change," while Hinton will remain in post to allow an "orderly transition" throughout the summer.
The board is searching for a successor while planning to double investment into its water supply network over the next five years to improve resilience and capacity in priority areas.
