Embattled Transnet Opens It Rail Network to Private Operators

The South African government will open its rail freight network to private companies in order to improve its efficiency. This decision comes as Transnet, the public company responsible for rail and port freight, is faced with shortages of equipment, delays in maintenance and acts of vandalism, including the theft of cables.
