Senior Police Officer Shot in South Africa Ahead of Corruption Testimony
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Major-General Feroz Khan, the deputy head of Crime Intelligence, was shot in Houghton, Johannesburg, and remains in critical condition at Milpark Hospital.
Khan was scheduled to testify before the Madlanga Commission on July 1 regarding alleged corruption and police interference, having recently withdrawn a court bid to block investigators' access to his devices.
Investigators found two 9mm bullet casings at the crime scene, and Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane directed the Political Killings Task Team to join the Gauteng Hawks and Detective Service in the investigation.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe warned that speculation regarding the attack's motive is 'premature and irresponsible,' while Acting National Commissioner Dimpane vowed that 'no resource will be spared in identifying, tracing and arresting those responsible.'
The Madlanga Commission has faced previous security threats, including the murder of witness Marius van der Merwe in December last year, as it continues to probe allegations of political influence within law enforcement.
