China's largest chipmaker, SMIC, is testing an advanced chip machine built domestically for the first time, according to the Financial Times. "In a sense, the Americans have created a competitor for ASML," says analyst Jos Versteeg of InsingerGilissen. "Because they're allowed to buy less and less, the Chinese have to develop their own."
