Rockets Secure Tari Eason with Fully Guaranteed Five-Year, $81.5 Million Deal
Eason averaged 12.8 points in the playoffs and became a restricted free agent after Houston missed an October extension deadline.
On Thursday, restricted free agent Tari Eason agreed to a five-year, $81.5 million deal to return to the Houston Rockets, ESPN's Shams Charania reported.
The Rockets and Eason failed to reach an extension agreement before the October deadline, prompting him to play the season out as a restricted free agent to secure more guaranteed money.
Eason, 25, played a career-high 25 minutes per game last season, appearing in 60 games with 34 starts while averaging 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals for head coach Ime Udoka.
Retaining Eason provides vital depth for Udoka's rotation as the Rockets navigate the second apron and pursue competitiveness in the Western Conference.
The team aims to rebuild after their first-round playoff loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, focusing on their young core while managing injuries that disrupted the previous season.
