Social media ban for kids under consideration in online harms bill: Carney
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada should debate a social media ban for children, but he has not decided on the issue yet, noting arguments on both sides.
Countries like Australia have implemented or are considering social media bans for kids under 16.
Carney stated that online harms legislation needs to pass in Canada, including considering an age of majority for social media use.
An earlier online harms bill by the former Liberal government failed before last year's election, and advocates want it reintroduced.
Although there is a need for a "discussion" in Canada regarding a ban on social media for children, Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that he has not yet made a decision on this issue.
