Large parts of Japan especially along the Sea of Japan coast remain in the grips of a strong winter pressure pattern that is dumping heavy snow. A heavy snow alert is issued for Tottori and Fukui prefectures.

Tokyo, Many Regions across Japan Hit with Heavy Snow

Northern to western parts of Japan are hit by heavy snow on Sunday due to strong winter pressure system. In Utsunomiya, there is 15 centimeters of snow as of 5 a.m., Sunday while 3 centimeters in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, and the city of Chiba, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
