SMU signs ex-MLB player, 2018 5-star recruit Jordyn Adams to football scholarship
The former five-star recruit is eligible under NCAA rules after 8 years in baseball and 38 MLB games.
Former five-star football recruit Jordyn Adams has enrolled at SMU to join the Mustangs football program, On3's Billy Embody reported Tuesday.
The move follows Adams' departure from professional baseball, closing a career that stretched from 2018 until his final game with Triple-A Nashville Sounds on May 20.
Adams originally signed with UNC as a 4-star wide receiver in the 2018 recruiting class before selecting a professional baseball career with the Los Angeles Angels.
Because Adams entered professional baseball directly, his eligibility differs from traditional athletes, though the NCAA continues to debate an age-based model for future cases.
Athletes like Chris Weinke have previously transitioned from professional baseball to college football, with Weinke spending six seasons in the minors before enrolling at Florida State and winning the Heisman Trophy.
