SK Telecom Launches AI Data Center Infrastructure Company ‘SK Horizon’ and Secures Investments From KKR and IMM
SK Horizon will expand capacity to 318 MW as KKR and the IMM consortium provide KRW 3.08 trillion in equity funding.
- On Thursday, SK Telecom announced it will split its wholly owned subsidiary SK Broadband into a surviving company and newly established SK Horizon, a dedicated AI data center infrastructure firm.
- This governance restructuring aims to strengthen expertise and accelerate decision-making in the AIDC business, said Kim Seong-soo, CEO of SK Broadband, who is expected to lead SK Horizon.
- KKR and the IMM Investment-Stonebridge consortium will invest $2.2 billion in SK Horizon, holding 29 percent and 20 percent stakes respectively, while SKT retains a 51 percent majority share.
- Under the new structure, SKT will oversee overall AIDC strategies, SK Hyper will develop gigawatt-scale projects, and the surviving SK Broadband will drive innovation across fixed-line and media businesses.
- The company targets completing the spin-off in the first quarter of next year pending shareholder approval, aiming to expand SK Horizon's infrastructure toward a total capacity of 318 MW.
