Italy and five other countries have asked the European Union again, and then Elly Schlein has asked the government to do so immediately at national level.
Germany, Italy, Austria, Poland, Portugal and Spain have sent a joint letter to the Irish Finance Minister calling for the introduction of an exceptional tax on super-profits generated by oil companies. They called for the lessons learned to be taken into account when a similar measure was introduced in 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Ministers of Economy and Finance of Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Portugal and Poland asked the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union to open a debate to 27 on the declaration of a tax on oil profits from the Iran war during the next informal Ecofin summit to be held in Dublin on 18 and 19 September.
