Five Arrested for Threatening, Abducting and Forcing to Beg a Man Who Had Denounced Them in Elda

The ordeal of a 46-year-old neighbor of Elda (Alicante, 55,157 inhabitants) began with a fight during the celebration of the town’s major festivals in September of last year. After suffering an assault by three people and reporting the events to the National Police, he was threatened, assaulted, coerced, stolen, held against his will and forced to beg until in January 2025, he ended up hospitalized in the ICU, on the verge of death.

The National Police had arrested four men and a woman aged between 18 and 39 in Elda for forcing a man to beg for an alleged debt and holding him for two months in a home, where he had been subjected to assault and coercion and lived in unworthy conditions, as he spent most of his time on a balcony; the ill-treatment suffered had caused him to be hospitalized for two weeks.
