Why the Isle of Man TT Has Suspended the Sidecar Class After Crashes
Organisers said the suspension follows multiple sidecar crashes and an immediate review after Daniel Ingham died in qualifying.
On Thursday, organizers suspended the Isle of Man TT Sidecar class for the remainder of the 2026 event following the death of British rider Daniel Ingham, who crashed during qualifying.
Organizers implemented the suspension as a "precautionary measure" following an "immediate technical and operational review" of serious accidents involving the Crowe brothers and Maria Costello.
The Crowe brothers are receiving care at Noble's Hospital with head injuries following a crash at Crosby Leap on Wednesday, while Costello remains at Aintree Hospital in "serious but stable" condition after her Tuesday incident.
Race officials are conducting an "immediate technical and operational review" to assess the circumstances surrounding the incidents and have briefed Sidecar competitors on the next stages of the assessment process.
Ingham's death brings the event's total fatalities to 271 since 1911, marking a somber milestone as the mountain circuit races had seen no fatalities last year and are scheduled to run until June 6.
