'Sharp cold front' to bring high winds, fall storm to Eastern Fraser Valley, Okanagan, Cariboo regions
Environment Canada said the storm could bring 60 to 80 km/h gusts, lower snow levels and a risk of thunderstorms across several interior routes.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Friday morning for a fall storm expected Saturday, Oct. 17, bringing mixed conditions to the Eastern Fraser Valley, Okanagan, and Cariboo regions.
A sharp cold front moving across the Interior on Saturday will generate strong gusty winds of 60 to 80 km/h, with snow levels dropping to 1500 metres in southern areas and 1200 metres in central regions.
Localized power outages, fallen branches, and slippery conditions threaten drivers on Oct. 17; Environment Canada advised high-profile vehicles to exercise caution in the strong winds.
While the storm affects the Okanagan Connector and Highway 3, the Chilcotin area, including Kamloops and Ashcroft, will not be impacted by the Oct. 17 system.
Mandatory winter tire requirements on the Highway network began Oct. 1, an essential preparation as conditions shift across the Interior during the fall storm season.
