The Sharks Sign Coach Ryan Warsofsky to a Contract Extension

On Thursday, the San Jose Sharks signed head coach Ryan Warsofsky to a multi-year contract extension on the first day of training camp before his third season at the helm.
The 37-year-old Warsofsky compiled a 59-85-20 record over his first two seasons while helping the rebuilding team improve by 34 points last season, the 10th-best single-season jump in 30 years.
Mike Grier sought to provide "peace of mind" with the extension so Warsofsky could focus on the team, while veteran forward Tyler Toffoli praised his teaching, saying, "He takes the time to make sure that we understand what's going on."
The team finished four points out of the playoffs last season but now enters the year with higher expectations, aided by superstar Macklin Celebrini and a chance to end a seven-season playoff drought.
Warsofsky, the NHL's youngest active head coach, previously won a Calder Cup in the AHL and a gold medal with Team USA, and thanked owner Hasso Plattner, Grier, and team president Jonathan Becher for his opportunity.
