Sharing Photos Between Android and iPhone Just Got a Lot Easier

  • Google announced that Android's Quick Share now works with Apple's AirDrop to enable file transfer between mobile operating systems, a capability arriving first on the Pixel 10 series.
  • Born of Google's push to ease cross-platform communication, the feature lets users share photos, videos and other files without worrying about the recipient's phone type.
  • The connection uses a direct peer-to-peer link, Google said it is not routed through servers and Apple devices appear in Quick Share when AirDrop's `Everyone for 10 minutes` mode is active.
  • Recipients retain control: transfers require approval and complete only after the iPhone user accepts, while Android devices appear on iPhone, iPad and Mac enabling two-way sharing.
  • Amid limited coordination with Apple, Google highlighted multi-layered security with overlapping platform protections and Rust hardening, telling 9to5Google it would welcome collaboration to improve interoperability.
