Severe thunderstorm, tornado watch in place for southern Saskatchewan
Environment Canada said severe thunderstorms could bring tornadoes, large hail and heavy rain, with localized flooding and utility outages possible.
On Saturday, Environment Canada issued Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches across SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN, warning of conditions favorable for large hail, strong winds, and heavy rain.
A surface trough moving north from Montana fueled storm development across the Canadian Prairies throughout Saturday, bringing a powerful weather system to both provinces.
Tornado watches affect communities in 41 RMs including Estevan, Weyburn, and Carlyle, while severe thunderstorm watches cover Regina, Moose Jaw, and 66 RMs.
Heavy rainfall warnings affect parts of Alberta, where 40 to 70 mm of rain is expected; in Edmonton, Flooding forced closure of westbound lanes on Yellowhead Trail at 170 Street.
The severe weather threat in Saskatchewan is expected to diminish later Saturday, though forecasters say parts of Alberta could continue to see rain into next week, potentially leading to Localized Flooding.
